1. Why Scrap Your Taxi
The Government wants to ensure that all taxis on the road are safe and roadworthy. In order to realise this vision, the Government want all taxis that were registered before 1st July 2006 to be scrapped by 30 May 2010. Thus if you have a taxi that is older than three years then it is wise to scrap your taxi so that you can get the R54,900 scrapping allowance and purchase one of the new and compliant taxis.
These taxis mostly have, roll over protection, seat belts, driver protection and lots of head room. They are thus able to offer your customers a safer and more comfortable experience.
2. Do You Qualify to Scrap your Taxi
To qualify for the scrapping allowance you need;
- To have a valid proof of being a legitimate taxi operator
- To have a properly licensed taxi with eNatis certification
- Your taxi must have a roadworthy permit
- you must be registered as a tax payer
- You must have an active bank account
3. How do You Scrap Your Taxi

Contact the scrapping agency call centre on 0860 881 133, and arrange to get an application form |
| Step 2: |
Obtain all of the documents you will require, these are;
- Your ID document
- Your valid taxi operating license
- Your SARS registration form
- Your bank account details, including a copy of your latest statement

| Step 3: |
Complete the application form and your documents to your nearest Taxi Scrapping Agency (TSA) Centre see addresses below. |
| Step 4: |
Soon after you will be contacted by the Taxi Scrapping Agency to tell you if your application has been successful. |
| Step 5: |
If approved, take your vehicle to the nearest TSA centre where it will be accepted for scrapping. |
| Step 6: |
Approximately 3 days later the R54,900 will be deposited into your account, this can then form the basis of your deposit on a new compliant taxi. |
